In einem Exkurs werden eine etymologische und linguistische examine vollzogen. Desweitern wird im ersten Teil der Arbeit untersucht, in welchen Bereichen der Minimalismus Einzug hielt und welche Querverbindungen sich zu anderen Kunstbereichen ziehen lassen. Im Einzelnen werden Facetten der Kunst, des Tanzes, der Literatur und der bildenden Kunst näher beleuchtet, um einen Gesamtzusammenhang herstellen zu können und eine generelle Tendenz der 60er/70er Jahre aufzuzeigen. Wenngleich sich die meisten Bereiche unabhängig voneinander entwickelten, scheinen sie ein verbindendes point zu haben, das seinen Ursprung offenbar in der Ästhetik der „Minimal track“ hat.
